Living with pain can dramatically influence your outlook on life. In the case of neck pain, the way you look at the world is literally altered. Maybe you are experiencing the annoyance of not being able to quickly turn your head. Maybe the pain is seriously impacting your safety during driving or work-related tasks. Whatever your particular circumstance, now is the time to seek help.

We hope that this guide will help answer your initial questions about neck pain rehabilitation and how Lincoln Orthopedic Physical Therapy (LOPT) can help.

Your neck matters

Neck pain may come on suddenly or be a daily companion. Whatever the case, neck pain is something to take seriously. It is incredible how much movement the neck allows, while still protecting vital arteries—the spine, your voice box, and nerves. But this same flexibility can make your neck susceptible to many types of injury. You may be experiencing pain from:

  • Extended sitting
  • Repetitive movements
  • Whiplash
  • Falls
  • Arthritis
  • Disc problems
  • Muscle tightness leading to headaches

Physical therapy is a partnership that puts you in the driver’s seat of your own health. We work alongside you, so you can gain the knowledge and tools that you need. We will help you reach your goals and maintain your progress at home.

When to seek help

During the initial onset of pain, you can typically
begin with basic home treatment. Try heat, ice, gentle
stretches, or have a friend give a gentle massage. But,
if any of the following apply to you, it is time to make
a phone call:

  • If you feel any numbness
  • If you are unable to touch your chin to your chest
  • If your pain was caused by a fall or a car crash
  • If your pain is so intense that you have difficulty
    getting around
  • If your pain does not resolve in 1-2 weeks.
