Focus on posture

A healthier lifestyle at work starts with your posture. Common workplace injuries like aggravated necks and backs come from forming poor posture habits. Avoid these pains by keeping a few of our tricks in mind. For starters, keep your legs uncrossed and feet flat on the floor. Your seat height should allow you to keep your feet flat on the floor comfortably. Another good tip is keeping your shoulders pulled back while sitting in front of your computer. Adjust the levels of your armrests to relax your shoulders and prevent rounded or hunched shoulders.

Pack a lunch

During the hustle and bustle of a busy day, it can be difficult to fit in a healthy lunch. Instead of relying on the fast food restaurant down the street, try packing your lunch the night before. Planning out your meals beforehand can ensure you’re giving your body the right amount of protein, fats, and veggies you need to stay healthy. It’s also a great way to save an extra few bucks.

Keep healthy snacks on hand

While packing your lunch, be sure to throw in some extra snacks to help you get through the afternoon munchies. Eating lunch at your desk can result in a higher intake of calories due to an increase of mindless snacking. Additionally, getting up from your desk for lunch gives you the chance to socialize with your coworkers.

Get some air

Sitting for too long can weaken your bones and cause your blood flow to slow down. Increase your blood flow and get your creative juices going by taking frequent breaks from your desk. Go outside and soak up some Vitamin D or simply take a few laps around the office. Skipping emailing and going to the source is another great excuse to get you up and out of your desk.

Stay hydrated

This seems like a no brainer, but people still have problems staying hydrated. Dehydration can lead to fatigue, dizziness, and confusion, which clearly inhibit productivity in the workplace. Stay focused at work by keeping a larger water bottle on your desk or in near proximity. Stay hydrated and stay on task.

Stretch at your desk

Stretching doesn’t only occur at the gym. It can take place right at your desk. If your neck is feeling tight, drop your chin down to your chest and gently roll your head from side to side. Relax your shoulders by performing shoulder shrugs up and down for a few minutes throughout the day. Open up your chest by bringing your arms behind your back, pressing your palms together, and sitting nice and tall for about 5-10 seconds.
